Health and Safety Policies
Illness and Health Management:
Health Appraisal: Upon enrollment, parents/guardians must provide a completed health appraisal form from a licensed physician or nurse practitioner for each child. The form should include up-to-date immunization records and any specific health instructions.
Exclusion Criteria: Children showing signs of illness, including fever (oral temperature of 101°F or greater), vomiting, diarrhea, uncontrolled coughing, or other contagious symptoms, will not be permitted to attend daycare until they are symptom-free for at least 24 hours or as recommended by a healthcare provider.
Communicable Diseases: In the case of communicable diseases, parents/guardians are required to report the diagnosis to the daycare. The daycare will follow appropriate protocols, including informing other parents and taking necessary precautions.
Medical Emergency: In the event of a medical emergency, the daycare staff will immediately seek medical attention and notify the child's emergency contact. The daycare staff is trained in first aid and CPR to provide immediate care until medical professionals arrive.
Medication Administration:
Medication Log: Any medication, prescription or over-the-counter, brought to the daycare must be accompanied by a completed "Medication Log." The log will include essential details, such as the child's name, medication name, dosage, administration times, and parent/guardian signature.
Authorization Form: Parents/guardians must provide written authorization for the daycare staff to administer medication to their child. This includes any changes in dosage or timing.
Storage and Labeling: Medications will be stored in a secure, locked location, out of children's reach. All medications must be labeled with the child's name and kept in their original containers.
Emergency Procedures:
Emergency Evacuation: The daycare premises are equipped with emergency exit routes and evacuation plans. Fire drills will be conducted regularly to ensure children and staff are familiar with evacuation procedures.
Emergency Contacts: Parents/guardians are required to provide up-to-date emergency contact information. In the event of an emergency, the daycare staff will attempt to reach parents/guardians or designated emergency contacts promptly.
Individualized Emergency Plans: Children on the autistic scale with specific emergency needs will have individualized emergency plans. These plans will outline strategies for communication, calming techniques, and any specific accommodations required during an emergency.
Severe Weather: During severe weather conditions, the daycare may initiate weather-related emergency procedures, such as sheltering-in-place. Parents/guardians will be informed promptly about any weather-related events.
Children on the Autistic Scale:
Sensory-Friendly Environment: The daycare will maintain a sensory-friendly environment, taking into account sensory sensitivities and preferences of children on the autistic scale.
Communication Methods: Individualized communication methods will be used to cater to the needs of each child. Visual schedules, picture cards, and other visual aids may be employed to support communication.
Behavior Management: Positive behavior support strategies will be utilized to promote self-regulation and emotional well-being. Challenging behaviors will be addressed with patience, understanding, and guidance.
Sensory Integration Support: The daycare will provide sensory integration support, such as sensory play and designated calming areas, to assist children in processing sensory information effectively.
