water theropy for Back Pain

At the ripe old age of 69, after years of sitting behind a desk leaning over a keyboard, I find myself in constant need of pain relief from lower back pain.

I've been comparatively active over the years when not at work, so a combination of things are at play. An old skiing injury that healed improperly plays a roll. I find I can exercise in the swimming pool without risking further injury. There are many others my age and older doing the same.

Water exercise therapy is an especially helpful back pain remedy. The buoyancy of the water is to your advantage as there is less pain exercising in the water than exercising on land. Stretching out is important to keep connective tissues flexible and warm water helps the muscles relax while you limber up.  Professional assistance from a licensed physiotherapist may be available to you depending on where you are and what your financial situation is.

A few of the folks I work out with in the pool go to a Yoga class once a week. The instructor has been working with a physical and spiritual approach to health and healing for years.  Yoga is an ancient system from India. This system includes asanas (postures) that help you to become healthier, balanced and can create the opportunity to enter deep states of meditation. The yogic system helps you become flexible, release tension, and burn toxins so that you can experience peace, calmness, relaxation, and clarity. All things lower back pain interferes with.
