Introduction:
As a long-time chronic lower back pain sufferer I've always believed myself too busy to search for a cure and in all likelihood, there was none. Lately, the pain has gotten worse and I decided to do some research to see if, well, maybe I was wrong. There is plenty of information on the subject online because it is a problem shared by millions.
The biggest challenge, I've found, isn't in finding information, it's finding the right information all in one place quickly without spending hours on infomercials. Much of what I’ve found is biased because it is an attempt to sell you a cure that may not fit the problem.
So the purpose here is not to reveal information otherwise unavailable but to assemble information for easy access that is unbiased by the desire to sell you something.
If you are among the many who suffer from lower back pain I confess that I am not a doctor, a chiropractor or medical practitioner of any kind. I have nothing to sell other than this book itself and I have no ax to grind.
I am simply a fellow sufferer in search of a cure.
The purpose of this book is to share some of the discoveries I have made in my search for relief and to provide some guidance to those who are in pain and suffering along with me.
Rather than attempting to cover all aspects of the subject in this book I have instead, provided a brief overview of some of the more common causes and solutions for this problem and provided links to information shared by some of the many experts in the field.
To be upfront about it, some of you will undoubtedly find a solution to your back pain problems here, while others will need to dig deeper for your answers.
My goal is to save you time and effort in your search.
Much of what you will discover in this book will surprise you, or at least it did me. For some of you the solution to your pain and suffering is only moments away. For others, more research will be required but you will find information here that helps you do just that. The links I’ve shared here are designed to help you do just that.
In this book we cover:

Low Back Pain Relief | Conclusion
Chronic Lower Back Pain | Cause and Cure
Some chronic lower back pain begins after a spine injury such as a strained muscle, sprained ligament or herniated disc. Once the damage has healed, the pain simply vanishes.
But according to Adam Heller, Master Wellness Coach And Trainer …… "The latest scientific and neuroscientific studies …..have shown that lower back pain is almost never caused by the back or the spine." In fact, most lower back pain is caused by stress, and not the physical kind.
Adam is the creator of Zero Pain Now and Rapid Life Change. Zero Pain Now has a documented 97.4 success rate eliminating chronic pain. In addition a pilot project at the Mayo Clinic resulted in 100% case closures in all cases within 28 days. In his mission to help 10 Million People End Psychological and Physical pain, Adam has become a frequent guest on TV and other media and is considered to be among the greatest trainers in the world for pain relief (read more)
Now, sometimes pain can be an indication of serious conditions that are related to internal organ dysfunction so before we talk about possible solutions we are going to cover more of the potential causes. Not all of these could possibly apply to you so you need not read every one. You are probably not trying to become an expert on the subject of pain, you just want to end your own or the pain and suffering of a loved one. If you are not pregnant, for example, no need to ever read that advice. I’ve had my gall bladder removed, so I know it’s not causing me pain anymore. I’ve included this information for others.
So if you are searching for an immediate solution to your pain read the parts that are most likely to apply to you first.
Age-Related Cause of Low Back Pain
I’m 67 years of age and I’ve been fortunate to have been in good health for the better part of my journey here on earth. But I understand that when we, as humans advance in years, tendon elasticity and bone strength tend to decrease. The discs in our spine can lose fluid that then lessens their ability to cushion the vertebrate. If the spine is overly compressed, disks may rupture and bulge outward. This results in pressure on one of more than 50 nerves that control body movements that transmit signals to the brain. So maybe I shouldn’t jump out of any airplanes any time soon. The results could be disastrous. In fact, jumping out of the back of a pickup truck could be risky.
Any combination of these things could be the cause of lower back pain. In my case, too much time sitting and not enough time dancing are the root cause, or that what I thought. Your glutes are designed to power you through your physical activities, walking, running, jumping ……
They are crushed and suffocated by constant sitting.
(Sorry Glutes.)
If you don’t know if your back pain originates in your glutes and the way you have been abusing them, or in some other muscle you have neglected to use you may want to see what the Encyclopedia Britannica has to say about the evolution of your muscular structure and the purpose of the muscles you have.
You can find that right here: Human Muscle Systems
The cause of low back pain may reflect nerve irritation or bone lesions. Most of this follows trauma to the back muscles. LBP is also brought about by degenerative conditions such as arthritis, osteoporosis, viral infections, joint irritation or congenital abnormalities.
Too much fat, non-healthy lifestyle, weight gain during pregnancy, poor physical stature, inappropriate posture for the activity performed, and wrong sleeping position, are conditions that may also contribute much to the cause of your low back pain.
Having bad posture, especially when you are fond of slouching is a common cause of low back pain. Aside from that, weak abdominal muscles can lead you to have swayback. It is an abnormal curving of the spine where the discs between vertebrates become damaged. It may first appear stiff or numb when you get up and move around. Over a longer period of time, it may worsen.
When I was younger having a six-pack was normal in my family. I believe it to be hereditary. My dear old Dad could still show off his abs to impress the ladies when he was in his late sixties, and he did.
I have not been as fortunate.
As mentioned earlier, one cause of low back pain is carrying heavy materials especially when you are not used to doing so. When it is done, increased pressure is put on your lumbar spine. If lifting is done wrong, and you have the load positioned too far in front of you, the muscles in the lower back are forced to exert extreme effort that may cause permanent damage.
So be careful bending over to pick things up. Watch this video.
Originally, scar tissues that are created during the recovery period are not as sturdy and flexible as normal tissues. The buildup of scar tissue from repeated injuries eventually grows, resulting in chronic pain.
Also, the cause of low back pain may point toward a more life-threatening medical disease. The ache that is accompanied by fever or nausea can indicate a pinched nerve. It could also be brought about by the loss of bladder control, soreness from coughing, and progressive weakness. Some diabetics can experience severe twinges that radiate down to the leg related to neuropathy. Sickness such as osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and compression fractures are also potential causes so be aware that one cure will not be right for everyone.
While back pain is indeed a common condition most often caused by muscle-related injury, spinal injury, or emotional stress, it could be a symptom of a far more serious disorder. In fact, many chronic forms of back pain (lasting for more than two months) are actually symptoms of serious diseases, such as arthritis, osteoporosis, scoliosis, cervical spondylosis, spinal cancer, bone cancer, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, mittelschmerz, cervix cancer, tuberculosis, meningitis, among others.
I'm not trying to scare you here, but before you treat your pain to casually, try simple cures, or just try to tough it out, you need to understand the range of possibilities and act accordingly.
Gall Bladder Disease Causes Lower Back Pain
Gall bladder disease occurs when the bile contains too much cholesterol. The excess cholesterol binds with bile salts and calcium to form crystals or hard stones, known as gall stones. The presence of these gall stones is the cause of some of the more painful symptoms of gall bladder disease, such as gall bladder back pain.
Having personal experience with this, I have to tell you, a gall bladder attack is extremely painful. It feels like the muscles of your back and stomach are in spasm, like you have a charley-horse that lasts for hours. But it’s not the same for everyone. So if you think this could be your problem, check with your doctor. Take note of when the pain occurs relative to when you eat and how long it lasts. This information could help determine the cause.
Kidney Back Pain Symptoms
How do you know if your back pain is a symptom of a kidney infection?
There are various means by which you can differentiate kidney back pain from other back pain. The most common method is to find out where the pain is coming from.
Now, some sufferers of kidney back pain will find this a little difficult to accomplish since it feels like the pain is coming from all over the body with no one source of pain. However, if you concentrate and try to focus on where the pain comes from instead of how the pain is making you feel, it should not take you long to identify the source of the pain.
You will know if it is kidney back pain because the pain stems from the area of the back where the kidneys lie. Focus on the sides of your spine, specifically on the area just above the hips. If you realize that the pain is actually emanating from there, then chances are that kidney back pain is due to some type of kidney infection.
But there are forms of kidney back pain that are caused by injury not an infection.
Indeed, kidney back pain may be a direct result of an injury or trauma to the kidneys, not necessarily an infection of the organ. You will know if your kidney back pain is injury-related if you feel tenderness in the area above your hips where the kidneys are located. When this area receives direct injury or trauma, it could result in direct injury to the organs themselves. That’s why getting hit in this particular area of the back is sometimes called a “kidney punch.”
Kidney stones are a painful condition that is also referred to as renal lithiasis, urolithiasis, or nephrolithiasis. Researchers estimate that about one in twenty people will experience kidney stones at least once in their life. Since this condition is relatively common and can have serious complications if left untreated, thinking they are simply a pain in the back is a serious mistake.

Pregnancy Back Pain Prevention and Relief
Pregnancy back pain is a common complaint among women who are "with child". So common in fact that many women have accepted it as a normal part of pregnancy and do nothing to alleviate the pain.
Pregnancy back pain affects 50 percent of women. The cause could be any of the following:
Extra weight – You’ll obviously be gaining weight during your pregnancy since you have two mouths to feed. But while the extra weight is good for your baby, it can be bad for your back.
Change in weight-bearing – Your spine is responsible for keeping your body upright. It supports your weight, making sure that the majority of it is distributed in the center for better balance. When you are with a child, the weight shifts to your uterus, thus disrupting normal weight-bearing. This change could lead to back pains and various other aches.
Hormonal change – During pregnancy, your body produces hormones that cause your pelvic bones and joints to soften, loosening the muscles around them in preparation for your baby’s passage. This causes pliancy in your pelvic organs, leading to discomfort as you walk, especially up and down the stairs.
Techniques to Overcome Pregnancy Back Pain
There are a number of self-care strategies that will reduce pregnancy back pain. First is posture. You know already what the healthy posture is: back straight, shoulders level and parallel to the ground. Granted that it can’t be helped if your posture is affected as your body weight is gradually transferred to your uterus, try to assume this healthy posture in early pregnancy.
As much as possible do not pull your shoulders too far back in an effort to offset the weight of your uterus. This will lead to pregnancy back pain. Instead, talk to your doctor about how to adjust your posture in order to accommodate your growing belly.
Another strategy to help you manage pregnancy back pain is to sit with your feet slightly elevated. This will ease off the strain on your back by allowing you to relax your shoulders. Also, don’t cross your legs and change positions often. Avoid standing for long periods of time.
When you sleep, sleep on your side. Bend both of your knees with a pillow between them and another one under your abdomen. Relief for pregnancy back pain can be achieved by placing a specially shaped total body pillow under your abdomen.
A Maternity Belly Support Band can be purchased on Amazon for about $25.00 and it’s just my opinion but I think I’d buy one if I was pregnant. They help ease the discomfort of pregnancy by supporting your baby bump and providing gentle compression in the abdominal area.
Lots of people will tell you how they never used one and they are all right, and you need to believe what you will, but what I think is, if you can give nature a hand, why not?
An elastic maternity belt gives support for pregnant women who seek relief from hip and pelvic pains and other common stretching pains during pregnancy. Adding a little support could save you from months of lower back pain.
A belly wrap that supports the excess pregnancy weight can prevent straining your back by lessening spinal pressure.
Ideal for correcting poor posture and supporting weak abdominal muscles during pregnancy, a good maternity belt could save you months of post-pregnancy pain.

Back and Neck Pain
As we get older, back and neck pain becomes extremely common. The condition affects not only the physical health of these individuals but also their social and economic well-being. Back and neck pain can disrupt work, routine, and other daily activities you engage in. In fact, the condition is one of the leading causes of doctor’s visits and one of the most common reasons why people miss work.
However, while back and neck pain can make your life awfully difficult, the majority of cases are treatable without resorting to surgery or the continuous use of pain medication. There are steps you can take in order to handle the issues that may arise as a result of back and neck pain. These measures will not only help relieve the pain but also help you reduce the likelihood of recurrences of this condition.
In many instances, back and neck pain is caused by strains or other injuries to the muscles and ligaments surrounding the spinal column. These, in turn, may be caused by sports injuries or a sudden increase in physical activity to which you are not accustomed.
Injuries to feet, knees, and hips make for poor posture and often result in back pain.
Viral infections may also cause flu-like symptoms that are often accompanied by muscular pain affecting the neck and the back. The condition is known in medical circles as myalgia.
Another possible cause of your back and neck pain is the degenerative change that your spine undergoes as you age. A person’s spinal column is made up of individual bones (vertebrae) that are joined together by the intervertebral discs, joints, and ligaments. All these combined, form the strong but flexible structure of your spine.
As a person ages (middle age and beyond), back and neck pain occur as a result of the wear and tear of your intervertebral discs and other associated components of your spine. The number one cause of these degenerative changes is movement. Motion causes the neck (cervical) and the lower parts (lumbar) of the spine to gradually break down. Proper care, exercise, and diet could slow down this process.
Being biological structures, your ligaments and joints will try to heal and repair themselves but as a result, your spine could also become deformed with several bulging discs, buckling ligaments, and bone spurs. These changes could also affect the canals through which the nerves pass through, pinching them, as a result, causing pain or numbness.
In the age of computers sitting at a desk crouched over a keyboard for hours is a major cause of back pain. I’m struggling with it right now. I have to tell myself to get up and walk around. Take a break and learn to type without looking at the keyboard.
Back and Leg Pain
Here are some of the more common causes of back and leg pain:
Lumbar Spine Stenosis
Lumbar stenosis mostly affects men and the middle-aged to the elderly, although it could also occur in women and younger patients. Back and leg pain is the earliest complaint of this condition, which is often treated with some of the self-care methods available. This results in a delay in diagnosis.
Sciatica
Sciatica is a condition affecting the sciatic nerve. Since this nerve travels from the lower back through the buttocks and into the leg, the pain often occurs in any of these affected areas. Back and leg pain as a result of sciatica can be more or less severe and can be caused by a herniated lumbar disc.
The degeneration (herniation) of the disc causes it to compress onto one of the contributing roots of the sciatic nerve, causing sharp back and leg pains to shoot up. Often, the pain in the leg, posterior thigh, or foot can be much worse than the accompanying lower back pain. At the onset, the patient usually experiences severe pain in the buttocks which run all the way down through the legs or foot. In some cases, there is even no accompanying back pain.
Treating back and leg pain resulting from any of the disorders mentioned will involve treating the disorders themselves. Any of the usual types of treatments available for normal back pains will provide little relief, if at all.
While searching for a solution to my painful lower back I’ve tried a lot of things but never anything as crazy as this. Watch the video.
Back Pain Medication
I think when we talk about pain medications it's important to talk about them with a knowledgeable doctor. I’m convinced that adding drugs to your system from big pharma can cause more problems than they solve, but who am I to say? In this video by Dr. Peter Grossi, MD, of Duke Neurosurgery of Raleigh he talks about back and neck pain causes and treatments and he covers back pain medication within the context of a more complete discussion of back pain causes and solutions.

6 Back Pain Remedies you may never hear of
A licensed naturopathic physician may share back pain remedies you may otherwise never hear of, however, Before you act on any advice, I suggest you consider the source. At the moment you feel the ache, the primary step is to be properly assessed by a care provider you can trust. There are some medications that may suit one individual but not another. Here are some of those remedies:
Capsaicin Cream
An active ingredient in chili peppers, capsaicin cream when applied to the skin provides an analgesic effect as it reduces the substance P, a neurochemical that transmits pain. You may remember that analgesic is one of the many back pain remedies. A typical dosage is only about 0.025% four times a day. If possible, wear gloves when rubbing it to any part of your body.
Vitamin D
Found in fish with small bones, vitamins can also be obtained from fortified milk, cereal grains, and sunlight exposure. However, it has its own risks such as darker pigmented skin and digestive disorders. The utilization of glucocorticoid medications can be helpful for conditions like lung diseases and allergy irritations. For those who are advanced in years, there should just be minimal sunlight contact.
Music Therapy
Truly one of the low-cost back pain remedies, music therapy is not that soothing to the ears but it takes away depression and anxiety caused by sciatica. It has an immediate effect in reducing the sore although, the aftermaths were not that astounding.
Willow Bark
The part of a Salix alba tree has been discovered to have properties that can relieve aches. The ingredient called salicin, found in willow bark, is transformed inside the body to salicylic acid- believed to be the active compound that eases pain and inflammation.
Bowen Rehabilitation
A type of gentle bodywork, Bowen rehabilitation has been developed by an Australian osteopath, Tom Bowen. This is one of the back pain remedies that has been widely recognized in Europe and has been gaining popularity in North America. Specialists use a series of moves by their fingers and thumbs. It typically involves the specialist pulling the skin loosed apart from the muscle by putting in pressure and immediately releasing the tension.
Alexander Technique
Teaching people to improve their posture and eliminate bad habits, the Alexander technique stresses the importance of choosing a healthy lifestyle. It was created by an Australian actor, Frederick Matthias Alexander. He learned how to correct creakiness in his voice by not slouching and just standing tall.
CBD is the abbreviation for cannabidiol.
Early research* is showing promising results that CBD can help reduce inflammation and benefit aches and pains. Therefore, CBD can potentially relieve your back pain, allowing you to enjoy normal daily activities.
We all want to alleviate back pain and return to normal activities. While CBD may not be the cure for your back pain, it could potentially provide significant relief of your discomfort. Want to know more about CBD oil and its potential? (watch the video)
Water Therapy
At the ripe old age of 67, after years of sitting behind a desk leaning over a keyboard, I find myself in constant need of pain relief from lower back pain. I've been comparatively active over the years when not at work, so a combination of things are at play. An old skiing injury that healed improperly plays a roll. I find I can exercise in the swimming pool without risking further injury. There are many others my age and older doing the same.
Water exercise therapy is an especially helpful back pain remedy. The buoyancy of the water is to your advantage as there is less pain exercising in the water than exercising on land. Stretching out is important to keep connective tissues flexible and warm water helps the muscles relax while you limber up. Professional assistance from a licensed physiotherapist may be available to you depending on where you are and what your financial situation is.
A few of the folks I work out with in the pool go to a Yoga class once a week. The instructor has been working with a physical and spiritual approach to health and healing for years. Yoga is an ancient system from India. This system includes asanas (postures) that help you to become healthier, balanced and can create the opportunity to enter deep states of meditation. The yogic system helps you become flexible, release tension, and burn toxins so that you can experience peace, calmness, relaxation, and clarity. All things lower back pain interferes with.
Yoga
On the surface, yoga can be merely perceived as exercise, though the philosophy and spirituality behind yoga goes much deeper.
For thousands of years, the Yoga system was taught to help purify the body and mind, so that a practitioner can burn karma and awaken their soul. This included breathing techniques, concentration, meditation, practicing nonviolence, the discipline of mind and body, fasting, truthfulness and non-attachment among others. (Watch the video and give this a try)
As I search for my solution I discover more teachers, exercises and relaxation techniques. I woke up this morning with less pain, less stiffness. I find it hard to surrender to the fact that I need to work at this. For years my body simply took care of itself. Now I find myself less active and surprised at how much help these simple exercises are. If you are getting older and losing mobility and balance try these exercises. Get your blood circulating to all the parts of your body. It’s all connected to the pain you feel.
Hydrotherapy
Hydrotherapy is a back pain remedy that aims to relieve pain by loosening the muscles and ridding the body of toxins that cause pain and inflammation. Several studies have shown that soaking in a hot tub or warm bath as a form of back pain remedy will lessen stiffness, increase flexibility, and reduce the amount of pain medication used. In addition to hot baths, this back pain remedy may also include douches, sauna or steam baths, and wraps with herbal additives. If you have the time and the money explore every one of these possibilities.
Massage Therapy
Massage therapy is a form of back pain remedy that uses manual stimulation of the muscles to reduce or alleviate pain. The massage movements is said to break down scar tissue and release muscles from painful spasms that often character back pains. Many of us, aging without partners, have little or no physical contact with other humans. A simple touch with kind intent can certainly heal.
This method is becoming increasingly common as a back pain remedy and is even recognized as a form of medical treatment. The American Massage Therapy Association conducted a study where they found that 54% of healthcare providers encourage massage therapy as a form of back pain remedy. Specifically, this back pain remedy improves circulation, helps alleviate muscle soreness, relaxes muscles, helps muscles move without pain, and increases endorphins, which are the body’s natural painkillers. If you are looking for a cure for lower back pain, this may not be it but, I can tell you from experience it is well worth a try.
Inversion Therapy
Inversion therapy involves being upside down or at an inverted angle while hanging by the legs, ankles, or feet with the intention of therapeutic benefits. The process of doing so is called inversion. It is a form of spinal traction. As we get older we seem to shrink through compression. Getting stretched out on an inversion table can certainly help. There are a wide variety of them on the market but essentially they all do the same thing. They hang you upside down by the feet. I should explain that a little. Total inversion is not necessary nor is it necessary to do this for extended periods of time.
I found lying on one adjusted to a balancing point where I could tip myself into the head down position simply by lifting my hands over my head and easily bring myself into an upright position again very relaxing. Used as a therapy, you would continue to do this over an extended period of time. This may relieve pressure and spinal compression resulting in healing injured muscles. But before buying one you should check with your health practitioner. You may also want to research the terms I’ve added below. I can tell you for sure, you don't want to get yourself upside down and alone if you can't get yourself right-side up again. Here’s a good video to watch if you are planning on buying one. Watch the video
Roger Teeter, Founder and President of Teeter as well as the "face" of the company, joins us for a live Q&A on Facebook Live. My Chair for Back Pain
My favorite chair for lower back pain is my heated car seat. In fact, any heated car seat will do, especially the passenger seat. I like to lean back and relax. The heat from the car seat relaxes the lower back and feels great.
There are a broad range of chairs designed to make working at a desk all day more comfortable and some great recliners for evening wear. I don't think we need to go into them here but if you do a lot of sitting around, get up and walk around every hour or so. It's good for your health. Poor body posture repeated daily isn't. But you know that. That's why chairs like this have evolved into something more than just another place to sit down.
Looking long term, the right chair may not be the right answer to your back pain problem. In this video Dr. Bergman explains how walking is so beneficial for optimal health.
Dr. Bergman explains how walking is so beneficial for optimal health, how are you walking? Did you know that humans are designed to walk a certain way? In this video you'll learn what a correct Gait (Walking Cycle) looks like and how you can correct any problems with your gait. (watch the video)
Dr. John Bergman's personal story of recovery and success is amazing. He was propelled into Chiropractic by a severe auto accident he experienced as a young man, that resulted in 2 broken legs,
fractured skull and sternum along with several organ injuries. With great personal need and a passion for healing and regenerating Dr. Bergman began studying the body’s recovery process. He obtained his degree as a Doctor of Chiropractic at Cleveland Chiropractic College in Los Angeles, eventually becoming an academic teacher at CCCLA. He taught Human Anatomy, Physiology, Biomechanics, and 4 Chiropractic techniques: Full Spine Specific (Palmer Method), Thompson, Diversified, and Extremity Adjusting. Dr. Bergman has an extensive knowledge of human anatomy and physiology that few can match. He successfully runs his clinic "Bergman Family Chiropractic", that continues to grow serving hundreds of people every week by focusing on corrective methods of healing along with a pediatric development. Chiropractic Visits For Back Pain
If you are thinking that chiropractic back pain treatment is a new concept, it is not. Records revealed that manipulation of the spine traced back to the time of Hippocrates.
Spinal manipulation and chiropractic care is generally considered a safe, effective treatment for acute low back pain, the type of sudden injury that results from moving furniture or getting tackled. ... Research has also shown chiropractic to be helpful in treating neck pain and headaches.
Low Back Pain Relief | Conclusion
After a stressful day at work, it's good to retire in the comforts of your bedroom and work out the stress gathered during the day. Taking a brake doesn't mean you are lazy or that you are wasting time. Taking care of your back will mean you have more strength and energy to give to your day.
The best low back pain relief position is to lie down on the floor with pillows beneath your knees while your hips are curved and your feet are on top of a chair.
Heating pads are also great low back pain relief, especially for muscle spasms. You can use the heat for about 20 to 30 minutes at a time. The availability of ice packs and massage treatments can also be very helpful.
There are medicines that can be purchased over the counter that bring temporary relief from pain but you need to treat the cause and not just the symptoms. These medications provide relief for swelling but they will not put bones or connective tissues back in place if they have been damaged:aspirin, acetaminophen (brand name: Tylenol), naproxen (brand name: Aleve), ketoprofen (brand name: Orudis) and ibuprofen (brand name: Motrin).
If pain persists, see your doctor. If pain continues to persist continue to seek help and maybe even look for another doctor. Not every doctor is the best at solving every ailement. Be open to the possibility that there may be a solution to your problem your doctor just doesn't know.
Being in pain is not a normal state of being. You don't just have to live with it. You deserve better.
Losing weight can result in low back pain relief. You also have to get your muscles in better shape and improve your postures when sitting, standing or sleeping.
Exercises can also assist in low back pain relief, but you need to find the right exercise for the right muscles to prevent further injury.
And last but not least, you need to discover that your mind, body, and spirit are connected. Take the time to repair the damage done to any, and all will respond favorably.
I'm Bob Polan,
and I wish you health, wealth, and happiness.
