Today's lesson
Your first Avatar
What is avatar?
According to Hinduism an avatar, comes from Sanskrit avatāra (“descent”), in Hinduism, the incarnation of a deity in human or animal form to counteract some particular evil in the world.
In the world of marketing, the avatar takes on a very different meaning.
In marketing, an avatar is a little fiction that helps us understand who our ideal customers are so can more easily find them. ... The avatar focuses on one person and outlines everything about them. It goes into much greater depth than a regular marketing persona, providing marketers with many more targeting tools.
If you want to stand out from the crowd start out honest! It's uncommon!
The first avatar you need to concern yourself with is “YOU”.
You want to present the best version of yourself starting with your personal profile.
People want to do business with real people. The first thing they are going to do is look you up on Facebook or Linkedin.
If you get your profile right when you ask people to have a look at your proposal or your product they are more likely to say,
Sure! I'll have a look.
Once you have figured out who you are and who you want to become you can build your personal profile to reflect that. Then you need to decide who you want to serve, how many, how, and for how much.
Then comes the biggest how of all.
How am I going to find customers or better still have them find me?
One way is to serve your customers so well they will want to refer you to their friends, their family, and their business associates.
Another way is to provide them with an ethical bribe.
If you’ve been marketing your business online, there is a good chance you understand the idea of an ethical bribe – something free you offer (like a special report or some sort of valuable information) in exchange for a prospect’s email address and permission to stay in contact with them (aka list-building).
Here's how this can work for a business on the street.
