How to replace the gear case in a top-load washer

The washer gear case:

* Drives the impeller that agitates the clothes during the wash cycle.

* Rotates the spin basket in the spin portion of the cycle.

* Shifts the drive system between the agitation and spin modes.

Washer Wont Spin? Light Just Blinking?

If the shifter malfunctions, the electronic control board shuts the washer off and displays an error code. 

The tech sheet attached to the back of the washer or inside the washer cabinet has a diagnostic test for the shifter.
