HYPERTENSION

A condition affecting the circulatory and nervous systems.

 

Hypertension is defined as elevated blood pressure in excess of 140/90mmHg.

 

Most cases (about 90%) have no clear cause and are called primary hypertension.

 

Secondary hypertension has a cause that has been identified, for example kidney disease and certain endocrine disorders.

 

Hypertension may be asymptomatic (no symptoms).
