• Origin

 
Lateral epicondyle of the humerus.

 

• Insertion

 
Lateral surface of the olecranon process of the ulna.
Proximal posterior surface of the ulna.

 

• Agonist(s)

 

Triceps brachii (assists in elbow extension).

Brachialis (synergist in elbow flexion, especially when the forearm is pronated).

 

• Antagonist(s)

 

- Biceps brachii,

- Brachioradialis,

- Pronator teres (for pronation of the forearm).

 

• Function

 
Assists in elbow extension.
Stabilizes the elbow joint during forearm pronation and supination.
Helps in the final extension of the elbow when the triceps is fatigued.

• Location

 
Trigger points in the anconeus muscle are often found along the muscle belly near the lateral epicondyle and distal ulna.


They are usually located at the posterior aspect of the elbow, close to the olecranon process.

 

• Pain Referral Pattern

 
Pain is typically felt around the elbow joint, particularly on the lateral aspect.


Referral pain may radiate into the forearm, extending down to the wrist or even the proximal forearm, mimicking symptoms of lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow).
