BRACHIALIS
• Origin
Anterior surface of distal half of humerus
• Insertion
Coronoid process of ulna, ulnar tuberosity
• Agonist(s)
- Biceps Brachii
- Brachioradialis
• Antagonist(s)
- Triceps Brachii
• Function
Major flexor of elbow joint
TRIGGER POINT(S)
• Location
Trigger points in the brachialis are commonly found in the middle of the upper arm, deep to the biceps brachii, along the muscle belly and near the distal attachment close to the elbow.
• Pain Referral Pattern
Pain often refers to the front of the elbow, sometimes extending down into the forearm and occasionally up into the lower biceps area.
Pain can be felt deeply and is often mistaken for elbow joint pain.
Pain Pattern
• Potential Causes
• Repetitive flexion of the elbow, such as in lifting or pulling activities.
• Prolonged gripping or carrying heavy objects.
• Poor ergonomics during tasks involving the arms.
• Direct trauma or strain to the upper arm.
• Muscle imbalances between the brachialis and other elbow flexors.
• Prevention Tips
• Use proper techniques during lifting and carrying activities to avoid overloading the brachialis.
• Incorporate regular stretching and strengthening exercises for the brachialis and surrounding muscles.
• Maintain good posture and ergonomic practices, especially during activities involving repetitive arm use.
• Gradually increase workout intensity to avoid sudden strain.
• Ensure balanced strength training to avoid muscle imbalances.
