GOLFER'S ELBOW
TEST
• Test positioning
The client sits or stands and makes a fist on the involved side.
The therapist faces the client and palpates along the medial epicondyle.
The therapist's other hand grasps the client's wrist.
• Action
The therapist passively supinates the forearm and extends the elbow and wrist.
• Positive finding
Complaints of discomfort along the medial aspect of the elbow may be indicative of medial epicondylitis.
• Special considerations & comments
Pain along the medial epicondyle region of the involved elbow may also be caused by structural damage to the ulnar nerve or the ulnar collateral ligament.
It is important to assess each of these structures prior to making any conclusive determinations from this test alone.
The Golfer's Elbow Test is based on the foundational work of Dr. James Cyriax in orthopedic medicine and Dr. Don O'Donoghue's contributions to understanding medial epicondylitis (golfer's elbow).
