Lateral head - posterior shaft of humerus
Medial head - posterior shaft of humerus
• Insertion
Olecranon process of ulna
• Agonist(s)
- Deltoids
- Pectoralis major
- Latissimus dorsi
• Antagonist(s)
- Biceps Brachii
- Brachialis
• Function
Extends elbow joint, adducts and extends arm at shoulder joint
TRIGGER POINT(S)
• Location
Trigger points in the triceps brachii are typically located in the long head, near the back of the upper arm and the lateral head, which is closer to the outer side of the arm.
Common sites are in the middle and upper portions of the muscle.
• Pain Referral Pattern
Pain often refers to the posterior shoulder, down the back of the arm, and sometimes into the forearm and hand.
Pain can be felt in the area around the elbow, mimicking symptoms of tennis elbow.
Pain Pattern
• Potential Causes
• Overuse or repetitive extension of the elbow.
• Heavy lifting or pushing activities.
• Poor posture, particularly with rounded shoulders.
• Direct trauma or strain to the upper arm.
• Muscle imbalances between the triceps and biceps.
• Prevention Tips
• Use proper techniques during lifting and pushing activities to avoid overloading the triceps.
• Incorporate regular stretching and strengthening exercises for the triceps and surrounding muscles.
• Maintain good posture and shoulder alignment, especially during upper body activities.
• Gradually increase workout intensity to avoid sudden strain.
• Ensure balanced strength training to avoid muscle imbalances.
