INTERDIGITAL

NEUROMA TEST

• Test positioning

The client sits on the examining table with the involved leg extended.

The therapist stands next to the involved foot and places one hand around the metatarsal heads.

• Action

The therapist squeezes the client's metatarsal heads together and holds for 1 to 2 minutes.

• Positive finding

Pain tingling, or numbness in the foot toes, or ankle is indicative of an interdigital neuroma.

If positive, the pain is usually relieved when pressure is released.

• Special considerations & comments

Pain between the metatarsal heads is indicative of Morton's neuroma.

The most common location is between the third and fourth metatarsal heads.
