WRINKLE
TEST
• Test positioning
The client sits near a flat surface.
• Action
The client's fingers are placed in warm water for approximately 10 minutes.
Upon removal, the therapist assesses the skin around the pulp area for any wrinkling.
• Positive finding
A positive test is seen when the involved finger shows no signs of wrinkling, indicating a denervated issue.
• Special considerations & comments
This test can be used as an assessment tool for documenting peripheral nerve regeneration by way of pulp area wrinkling.
Furthermore, submersion of the fourth digit may allow for one to distinguish between median and ulnar nerve pathology.
