TEST

• Test positioning

The client should sit with their feet over the edge of the table.

The therapist stands in front of the client and places both hands over the dorsum of the client's feet to keep them parallel to the floor.

The therapist palpates the anterior aspect of the client's talus with the thumbs.

• Action

Passively plantar flex and dorsiflex the ankle and observe the level of movement, especially with dorsiflexion.

• Positive finding

A positive test is revealed upon resistance into dorsiflexion.

This indicates posterior tibiotalar subluxation.

• Special considerations & comments

Imaging tests should always be considered when excessive joint motion is observed to be sure there is no underlying fracture.
