DROP ARM TEST
• Test positioning
The client sits on a table or stands.
• Action
The therapist passively abducts the client's involved arm to 90 degrees and then instructs the client to slowly lower the arm to the side.
• Positive finding
The client is unable to slowly return the arm to the side and/or has significant pain when attempting to perform the task.
This is indicative of rotator cuff pathology.
• Special considerations & comments
If the therapist suspects rotator cuff pathology prior to performing the test, he should prepare to rapidly assist the client in the event that the client does experience an inability to control the adduction movement of the arm.
