• Massage is best avoided

 

- During an asthma attack
- Over or around areas of cellulitis 
- During a stroke or hypertensive attack 
- Over the abdomen of someone who has recently eaten 
- During an epileptic seizure 
- Over or around areas of folliculitis 
- Over a fractured area 
- Around the eyes in those wearing contact lenses 
- Over inflamed abdominal or pelvic organs 
- Over or around areas of Psoriasis 
- Over acutely inflamed joints or musculature

 

• Massage may be used with caution

 

- Over areas that have a loss of sensation
- On those taking anti-inflammatory medications
- On those taking analgesic medications
- Over or around skin lesions or infections
- Around inflamed areas
- Over Or around areas of oedema

 

• Deep tissue manipulations are best avoided

 

- Over areas that have a loss of sensation
- Over pelvic organs during menstruation 
- On people with chronic fatigue syndrome
- On people with fibromyalgia
- During a headache attack
- On people with multiple sclerosis
- Over excessive adipose (fat) tissue
- On people with Osteoarthrosis
- On people with osteitis deformans
