PSORIASIS
A condition affecting the integumentary and nervous systems.
The cause of psoriasis is unknown.
Often hereditary and may be precipitated by emotional stress, infection, and medications.
Psoriasis is characterized by reddened, silvery, scaly lesions on the skin.
Lesions commonly appear on the inside of the elbows, behind the knees, on the scalp and over the sacrum.
The lesions worsened in winter months and improved by exposure to ultraviolet rays.
In severe cases, it may develop into arthritis primarily affecting the small digits of the hands and the feet (psoriatic arthritis).
