UPPER

TRAPS

• Trigger Point Location:

Trigger points often develop in the upper fibers of the trapezius muscle, near the attachment points to the skull and the lateral third of the clavicle.

• Pain Referral Pattern:

Trigger points in the upper trapezius commonly refer pain to the:

- Temporal region of the skull, causing tension headaches.

- Side and back of the neck.

- Upper shoulder region.

- Along the spine between the shoulder blades.

- Down the arm, reaching the back of the hand in some cases.

• Additional Notes:

Trigger points in the upper trapezius are often associated with poor posture, stress, and activities involving sustained neck and shoulder positions.

They can be exacerbated by activities like prolonged computer use, carrying heavy bags on one shoulder, or sleeping in an awkward position.
