OEDEMA
A condition affecting the circulatory system.
Oedema is an excessive accumulation of fluid in the interstitial regions of the tissues.
FACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO THE FORMATION OF OEDEMA INCLUDE:
• elevated capillary blood pressure,
• venous or lymphatic obstruction,
• pressure disorders,
• renal failure,
• tissue inflammation and,
• corticosteroid usage
SYMPTOMS OF OEDEMA INCLUDE:
• swelling,
• reduced functional ability and,
• pain from increased pressure
MASSAGE RECOMMENDATIONS:
Gentle massage in the direction of venous flow may assist in resolving Oedema.
