TEST POSITIONING

 

The client sits on the examining table with the involved leg extended.

 

The therapist stands next to the involved foot and places one hand around the metatarsal heads.

 

ACTION

 

The therapist squeezes the client's metatarsal heads together and holds for 1 to 2 minutes.

 

POSITIVE FINDING

 

Pain tingling, or numbness in the foot toes, or ankle is indicative of an interdigital neuroma.

 

If positive, the pain is usually relieved when pressure is released.

 

CONSIDERATIONS & COMMENTS

 

Pain between metatarsal heads is indicative of Morton's neuroma.

 

The most common location is between the third and fourth metatarsal heads.
