On Camera
Practice, Practice, Practice
Be sure to know your topic. Prepare your script, even if it is bullet points. Don't try to “wing it” on the day of taping. You are representing your business. You don't want to unintentionally leave out any important information.
Your Body Posture
Your body posture can express confidence or a lack of it. Remember to sit up straight and intentionally pull your shoulders back and down. Expressing a sense of confidence will also help you to control your nervousness.
Men ground both feet. Women if you cross your legs, cross your feet at the ankles rather than at the knee. Engage your host with eye contact while also engaging the camera, your audience. keep your chin level, not too high nor too low.
Be Natural
People are looking forward to meeting you, hearing you, seeing you and experiencing who you are. Whether you are being interviewed, interviewing, hosting, in a commercial or a promo, be natural.
Remember to smile, yet naturally. Be in the moment you are in. If you have practiced and practiced, although you may be trying to remember your lines you will be able to be in the moment you are in and not somewhere else in your head.
You may not be in front of an audience you can see. Even if you are, remember to engage the camera lens. The camera lens represents tens, hundreds, thousands and maybe millions of people who will at some point watch you.
Think about watching the news and the anchor is constantly looking and talking to everyone else and engaging their ink pens and paper, yet never look at you - through the camera lens. That would be very awkward. not only that, you may ask, “What's wrong with them?” As a business owner or professional, you can loose your audience, your prospects, your customers, your clients.
