Brenda’s Safe Space for Seniors
Mission Statement
To enhance the quality of life for seniors and those with Dementia / Alzheimer's, their families, and caregivers by providing a safe and therapeutic environment.
History
Brenda’s Safe Space for Seniors is a grassroots organization established in 2022 by Terri Taylor, a compassionate caregiver who tends to her aging mother, Brenda, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Drawing from her firsthand experience, Terri witnessed how engaging in daily activities helped slow the progression of her mother's Alzheimer's. Acknowledging the financial strain of daycare and adult sitters, and recognizing the essential need for caregivers to take breaks, she created a unique program.
At Brenda's Safe Space for Seniors, caregivers have a safe and welcoming space to entrust their loved ones without financial burden. The program offers a nurturing environment where seniors can participate in specialized memory care activities, centered around music, art, movement, and social interaction. By combining therapeutic approaches, the organization strives to enrich the lives of seniors, promoting cognitive stimulation, and emotional well-being, and fostering a sense of belonging in a supportive community.
Terri's heartfelt initiative aims to provide respite for caregivers, ensuring they have the opportunity to recharge and take care of themselves while their loved ones are in the caring hands of Brenda's Safe Space for Seniors. The organization's dedication to compassion and understanding reflects Terri's profound commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of seniors, dementia/Alzheimer’s patients, and their caregivers.
